I don’t usually get behind mashups as a rule, because they’re usually pretty boring. I took this one thing, and I bumped it into this other thing. Blah. Girl Talk, on the other hand, registers on my badass-ometer because he’s got so much energy and he’s friggin’ great at choosing what samples to use (Neutral Milk Hotel? c’mon…)
Anyway, RiP! is a movie about him and other interesting mashup artists (I was a huge Negativland fan back in the day, if only b/c they made fun of U2). I haven’t seen the whole thing yet but I’ve heard good things; it’s available at Pitchfork for a week or so and if you miss it you can actually grab it from Netflix.
